Mr. Witts leads the firm’s Utility Industry Remediation and Closure Practice, having worked in the electric utility industry for over 18 years. He is charged with management of the remediation and closure of FMGPs for many utility clients in the Midwest including Ameren, Missouri Gas Energy, and Indiana Power. Many of these projects include soil and groundwater remediation as well as demolition and associated asbestos abatement and most received certificates of completion from state environmental agencies. He also manages our Regulatory Compliance group by assisting industrial clients with comprehensive environmental permitting, monitoring and reporting. He manages asbestos and lead-based paint inspection and abatement projects. His staff of asbestos and lead professionals provides inspections for local governments, private developers, and housing agencies, among others. He oversees the development of bid specifications for asbestos abatement projects and abatement oversight, air monitoring and closure.
Mr. Witts is also Vice President of Compliance Services for Environmental Operations, Inc. (EOI) with principle responsibility for environmental and safety compliance services. Mr. Witts possesses over 35 years of technical and management experience in environmental and safety fields. Mr. Witts’ is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, a licensed asbestos inspector, and a certified Project Management Professional.
Mr. Witts has managed over $35,000,000 in contracts for soil and groundwater remediation work on utility industry legacy sites in Illinois and Missouri. He served as the project principal managing $15,000,000 of asbestos abatement, demolition, and soil remediation work for the 550-acre NorthPark redevelopment project in north St. Louis County, and over $5,000,000 of similar work on the 50-acre River Roads Mall redevelopment in Jennings, Missouri.
Mr. Witts is also involved in environmental transactional due diligence activities for corporate buy-outs, risk assumptions, and environmental liability transfers. In this role, he focuses on the environmental compliance status, permitting and compliance requirements, asbestos containing materials, long-term monitoring and maintenance requirements, and health and safety issues associated with a property and its industrial operations.
. His responsibilities included contaminated site investigations and cleanups, solid waste management, groundwater and surface water sampling and analysis, and environmental compliance auditing.
